  Campaign Earth

Campaign Earth Campaign Earth's mission is to bring everyday people to a new level of personal involvement in critical environmental issues, like global warming. We package the information in an upbeat style and the action in easily accomplished, accessible programs, like our Monthly Challenge. We are a forward thinking, solutions-based organization focused on providing realistic vehicles of opportunity that recognize the power of mainstream Americans and give them a choice!

The Monthly Challenge Program provides folks with one new thing to implement into their lives each month, slowly guiding them along a path toward sustainability. By creating a "one step at a time" approach, it offers the opportunity for success to a wider audience. People feel empowered that they too can make a difference, just by implementing one change a month. CE recognizes that some of its initial Challenges are small. However, it believes in creating a path toward sustainability. By first asking people to implement small changes, participants become informed and more importantly, involved with making change. As they move along the program, the challenges become more "demanding" and therefore offer bigger impacts.

  Green House Network

Green House Network Founded in 1999, the Green House Network is dedicated to stopping global warming, by promoting a clean energy future for America. To achieve this goal, we create opportunities for person-to-person dialogue about climate solutions, and foster education and action networks among citizens, businesses, and the government. We have three main projects:
  • Our National Speaker Network is comprised of close to 250 volunteer climate change speakers. After attending one of our weekend training workshops in Portland, the speakers -- ranging from artists to college professors -- give at least 5 talks each. Over the last year and a half, network speakers have delivered around 600 presentations nationwide, at colleges, businesses, churches, and community centers.

  • With the support of businesses including Nike, Staples and Aveda, we sponsor the Race to Stop Global Warming -- a combined running race and educational event modeled on the Race for the Cure.

  • Northwest Artists Respond to Global Warming featured a weeklong workshop, in which prominent Northwest Artists teamed up with young artists from the Portland metro area--including teens from disadvantaged communities. In this setting, the teams created sculpture, painting, music and poetry responding to the dire consequences forecast for the Northwest as a consequence of global warming.

  Duyure Adelante

Duyure Adelante! Duyure Adelante is a non-governmental and non-profit organization(501(c)3) formed in response to the devastating effects of Hurricane Mitch, a class 5 hurricane that tore through Central America in late October, 1998. This group's purpose initially was to aid and assist citizens with relief and rebuilding needs in southern Honduras. Duyure Adelante works on a tangible, community level and has since expanded its scope to include other longer-term and sustained modes of assistance. Community-led and citizen-determined projects include a scholarship program for students to continue 7th through 9th grade in school, a dental hygiene program, an regional dry land agricultural learning center project and a book donation program for a local public library.

Duyure Adelante recognizes the value in making links between climate change mitigation efforts and local level climate change adaptation strategies to protect communities in southern Honduras from future extreme events like hurricanes and drought.

  CLIF BAR

Clif Bar In 1990, Gary Erickson set off on a one-day, 175-mile bicycle ride with his buddy Jay. As usual, he packed six energy bars-the only energy bar brand on the market at the time. Halfway through the day, Gary realized he simply couldn't stomach another unappetizing, sticky, hard-to-digest bar. Then and there, at a moment he now calls "the epiphany," the inspiration for the CLIF® BAR was born.

Gary owned a bakery at the time, making homemade calzones and cookies, and already knew that good food could only come from using high-quality, natural ingredients. So the idea for a new kind of energy bar went from the drawing board to his mom's kitchen where the first CLIF BAR was created using all-natural ingredients. Named after his father Clifford, the CLIF BAR recipe included an energizing combination of carbohydrates, fiber and protein made with whole grains, fruit and beneficial vitamins and minerals. It was introduced to the public in 1992 by what was then known as Kali's Bakery.

The CLIF BAR was an instant hit with cyclists and climbers. Distribution began humbly in bike shops, outdoor stores and natural food markets, but its popularity grew among outdoor adventure seekers of all types. Eventually, CLIF BAR distribution expanded nationally to include grocery stores, convenience stores and other retail outlets.

Renamed Clif Bar Inc. in 1997, the company was named one of the nation's fastest-growing private companies by Inc. magazine each of the next four years. In response to the demand for innovative, healthy foods, Clif Bar Inc. has since developed other tasty, all-natural products, including: LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®; MOJO Bar®, the first natural snack bar with popular salty snack flavors; CLIF® Builder's™, the Entirely Natural Protein Bar™; CLIF SHOT®, The Natural Energy Gel® for endurance activities; and CLiF ZBaR™, the nutritious snack bar specially made for active children.

Clif Bar Inc.'s vision has always been bigger than the bar. Today, the company is on a journey toward long-term sustainability, exploring ways to keep people, the planet, the environment and its local communities healthy for generations to come. Clif Bar recently became the first major energy bar to be certified organic, using organic ingredients such as organic rolled oats, organic roasted soybeans and organic honey. This not only provides a better product for consumers, but also represents a step toward safeguarding the nation's soil and water.

Supporting organic agriculture is just one part of the sustainability journey. In addition to the use of organic ingredients, the company is working to reduce its ecological footprint by supporting construction of a wind farm to offset its CO2 emissions, using non-toxic inks and recycled paper for its print collateral, switching to recycled paperboard for the cartons that hold the bars on store shelves and instituting in-house recycling and compost programs.

Clif Bar Inc. sustains its employees by creating a healthy workplace that has received national attention and honors. Employees have access to a world-class gym and on-site personal training, salon services, car washes, game room and organic produce delivery. They can also take part in a flexible workweek, volunteer opportunities during the workday, a six-month sabbatical program, financial assistance for first-time home buyers, and a dependent care assistance program. Dogs and babies are welcome in the office, and casual dress is encouraged daily.
